Our Story
Hudson Compost was founded in 2019 by Hastings High School students Jude Joerger, Ben Hunt Wan, and Max Schapiro, who shared a passion for sustainability and community impact. Seeing that many residents struggled to compost at home, they launched a curbside food scrap collection service in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY - modeled after traditional trash and recycling pickup, but designed specifically for food waste. Working together with the help of their dear fwiends, they provided weekly pickups and began growing the business.

We are passionate about building healthier neighborhoods with less waste, cleaner air, and more sustainable habits. We partner with residents, businesses, and local governments to reduce the amount of food scraps sent to landfills for incineration. We return finished compost back to our members and local, community, and school gardens at no cost, hoping to create a system that makes composting easy, accessible, and impactful for everyone.
